    HMS WELLINGTON

HMS Wellington, formerly HQS Wellington, is moored on the Thames - its stern lines tied off in the Ward of Farringdon Without.  The ship is the only surviving Grimsby class sloop, the only surviving Battle of the Atlantic convoy escort, and is one of only 16 major Royal Navy historic ships that survive today.  It is now managed by the Wellington Trust - see Home - HMS Wellington.

We invite members of the Club to join the Curry Lunch on 18 September - where we hope to take three tables of eight - and meet others interested in the ship and the Trust.

Timings are 12.15 p.m. for drinks, sitting down at 1.00 p.m. for a three course lunch, selecting your menu choices on the day.

The cost per ticket is £55 for members and their guests.

Access is via a ramp from Victoria Embankment.

It is just over a month before City Giving Day on 23 September, one of the Lord Mayor’s charity fund raising events.  There are four events – but I think that Farringdon Ward Club may leave the “Tour de City” gym bike challenge to younger groups. That still leaves us with three events – a lunchtime guided tour, a Treasure Hunt at 4.00 p.m., and a Quiz from 6.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.

This is about the Guided Walks, which are led by City of London guides.

There are four separate guided walks, starting at 12 noon, 12.30, 1.00 and 1.30 p.m. and each lasting about an hour.  The start point is not stated but I would expect it to be at or near Guildhall.  I suggest that we make individual applications direct to the City of London website - it is £10 each - and that if you like you register here so I can let everyone know who to look out for, and coordinate a place to meet up for refreshments afterwards.

    This is the link:

    News And Events | Events Calendar | 1086 | City Walk 2025 | The Lord Mayor's Appeal 2025

I (Nick Dougan) am going to sign up for the 1.30 p.m. start, which will allow an hour or so to meet for some refreshments afterwards, before starting the Treasure Hunt at 4.00 p.m. - see the separate listing/email on that.

This email is about the Treasure Hunt, which is a team event for teams for up to 6 people.  It starts at Guildhall at 4.00 p.m., does not involve walking more than half a mile and should take about 45 minutes.  Afterwards I suggest we grab a little refreshment somewhere locally before those who wish to proceed to the Quiz.

The cost is £10 per person.  I have set the event up for six people and a waiting list – so we could field a second team if there is sufficient interest.

Payment by card using the Stripe Card payment system is preferred, but you may elect to pay “offline” by making a payment direct to
